The deadline, explained

Snapchat starts deleting Memories on September 26, 2026.

66days 16hrs 25min

Until the deletion window can open. Deletion rolls out per user, so your own deadline may be later, but nobody gets told an exact date.

What is actually happening

Snapchat now caps free Memories storage at 5GB. If your Memories are over that limit, your oldest ones can be deleted, starting as early as September 26, 2026, unless you pay for a Snapchat+ storage plan or get them out. For most people who have used Snapchat for years, 5GB is one or two years of snaps, not eight.

How to check if you're affected

In Snapchat, open Settings and look for Memories storage. If you see a storage warning or "Snapchat storage full", you are over the limit and on the clock. If you've been snapping since before ~2023, assume you're affected.

How to save everything before the deadline

  1. Request your export now. Snapchat: Settings → Privacy Controls → Export your Memories → All time (or accounts.snapchat.com/accounts/downloadmydata). The export takes hours to days to arrive, so this is the step not to postpone.
  2. Download the ZIP files Snapchat emails you. Large libraries arrive as several ZIPs. Download links expire, so grab them when they arrive.
  3. Import them with Memport, all ZIPs at once. Every photo and video lands in your iPhone Photos library with its original date, location and captions. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Why not just pay Snapchat for storage?

You can, from $1.99/month, forever. That rents your own memories back to you. Getting them out once costs $9.99 and they're yours, in your Photos library, backed up however you back up your photos. Full comparison.
